About The Australian Labradoodle

A Breed with Heart, History, and Purpose

The Australian Labradoodle is more than just a dog—it’s a loving companion with a remarkable origin and a bright future in both family homes and therapy settings worldwide.

Originally developed in the 1980s, this breed was intentionally created to blend the intelligence and trainability of the Poodle with the loyal, gentle nature of the Labrador Retriever. The goal? A hypoallergenic therapy dog that could provide comfort, companionship, and joy—and that’s exactly what they’ve become.

As the breed evolved, other breeds like the English Cocker Spaniel, Irish Water Spaniel, and Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier were thoughtfully introduced to enhance specific traits. The result is the Australian Labradoodle we know and love today: affectionate, friendly, and eager to please.

These dogs are deeply people-oriented and thrive on human connection. Whether they’re chasing a ball with the kids, snuggled on the couch, or working as therapy partners, their calm and loving temperament shines through. Their high intelligence and natural desire to learn make them a dream to train—ideal for both service roles and everyday family life.

What truly sets the Australian Labradoodle apart from other “doodle” breeds is their multigenerational lineage. Unlike first-generation doodle crosses, Australian Labradoodles have been purposefully bred for consistency in temperament, coat, and health. This dedication results in a reliable, allergy-friendly, and emotionally attuned dog.

Their signature fleece coat is soft, often wavy, and known for being low to non-shedding—making them a great choice for allergy-sensitive families. That said, regular grooming is essential to keep their luxurious coats healthy and mat-free.

Above all, Australian Labradoodles are bred with a strong focus on temperament and health. They’re designed to be true companions—happy, well-adjusted, and ready to become beloved family members or dedicated therapy dogs who make a real impact.

If you’re looking for a dog that brings together intelligence, easy trainability, and a warm, family-friendly personality, look no further. The Australian Labradoodle is the perfect fit.
